The Silver Spring chapter of Mocha Moms, Inc. is part of a national organization that serves as an advocate for mothers of color. Many of our moms stay at home, but we also have a significant number of moms who work outside the home, are students or working private businesses and/or a home business.
We pride our chapter on being a support group first and foremost. As mothers we know the challenges other moms face every day … in parenting, in their marriage, in finances, in work, in families, everything – and we have created a group where moms feel safe and encouraged. Mocha Moms does not discriminate and all are welcome to join who support our mission, regardless of sex, race, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic or employment status. Our dues are relatively low and cover a gamut of resources and activities.
As a member you will be privy to weekly support meetings and speaker series, scheduled play groups, monthly Mom’s Night Out, First Mocha Friday’s Happy Hour, couple nights, kids events as well as annual events such as our Family Summer BBQ and Holiday House Party, and Family Fall Festival. Our regular support meetings are currently on Wednesdays, at 10am.
As far as who we are… we are moms -- wives, partners, single...working, stay at home, students…in biological families, blended families, adoptive families…of newborns, toddlers, pre-k, and school aged children…living in Rockville, Laurel, D.C., Gaithersburg, Ellicott City and of course Silver Spring. We are unique, we are supportive, we laugh together, we cry together. We pick up each other’s kids from school in an emergency, we take each other food when we have babies, we sit in the audience when one of us has a performance. We are wonderfully fabulous mothers and friends. And we invite you to get a glimpse of what we are all about.
